Group: Helmig, Whalen against parks tax

Boone County parks tax opposition group Citizens for Lower Taxes today released a list of elected officials and candidates in Boone County who say they are against the measure.

The list includes Boone County Sheriff Michael Helmig, Florence Mayor Diane Whalen, state Rep. Addia Wuchner and state Rep. Sal Santoro.

"Our group's mission is to stop the unnecessary tax increase on the ballot in Boone County," said in a state Kenny Brown, the group's co-chairman. "Around 30 candidates and elected officials are joining our message of tax relief."

The group sent out a questionnaire.

Those who said they oppose the tax are Kentucky Senate candidate John Schickel, Santoro, Wuchner, state House candidate Merrick Krey, Boone County Commissioner Cathy Flaig, Helmig, Boone County Jailer Ed Prindle, Boone County Property Valuation Administrator Cindy Rich (treasurer of Citizens for Lower Taxes), Boone County Magistrate Mike Moreland, Boone County Magistrate James McGruder, Boone County Constable David Flaig, Boone County Constable Jim Dixon, Boone County Constable Dan Houston, Whalen and Florence City Councilman Mel Carroll.

Others are Florence City Council candidates Curt Bessette, Larry Braden, Larry Brown, Mike Howard, Kelly Huff, Brian Rickert, Union City Commission candidate Lisa Compo, Walton City Councilman Lee Frakes, Walton City Councilwoman Ann Leake, and Walton City Council candidates Craig Brandenburg, Wayne Carlisle, Sharon McDonald, Ramona Roberts and Stephanie Williams.
