The event, which takes place throughout the city Sunday, Dec. 7, is meant to introduce patrons to the city's businesses and kick off the holiday season, said Debbie Buckley, renaissance manager.

"It's just a way for us to do a little goodwill for the community," Buckley said.

From free refreshments and special sales, to live entertainment and free pedi-cab rides, the event is fun for the whole family, Buckley said.

Linda Stapleton, a member of the city's Renaissance Board who helps to plan the walk every year, said it's always a fun day for everyone.

"It's a lot of work," said Stapleton, who makes homemade chili for the event. "But I'm looking forward to it because it's going to be an exciting weekend."

For the first time this year, the event will kick off in the south end of town at 4:30 p.m. at the Campbell County YMCA, where there will be activities for kids and pictures with Santa.

From 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., patrons can visit businesses in the midway district, then head to the town center in the north end of town from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event will end with the tree lighting at 7:45 p.m. at Inverness Park.

"I think it will be neat to do the event in a different direction," Stapleton said. "We usually start at Inverness and have the tree lighting when it's still light outside, so it will be nice to see what the lights look like at night."
